Muffin Tin Monday

They stepped up the challenge at Sycamore Stirrings for Muffin Tin Monday - it had a rainbow theme this week. And embarrassingly I looked up on Wiki what order the rainbow goes in - "The most commonly cited and remembered sequence, in English, is Newton's sevenfold red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet". Now this wasn't the song I remember learning??

So I laid out the food in said order combining indigo and violet for my substitute "purple"

tomato, orange, corn relish dip
baby spinach, milk (with a drop of blue colouring), canned beetroot
some of the other colours I attempted in the other muffin tin. inc corn chips, tomato sauce, yellow iced cupcakes, raisins, bread and butter.

the aftermath

This time I had more vegetables so the girls played more than they ate, but they did eventually eat. They made 'boats' out of bread, toothpicks and spinach for the sail, we ended up with beetroot milk (interesting), and my 5 year old discovered a love for corn chip, tomato sauce and spinach sandwiches!! The girls actually demanded we do this on Saturday and only a few hours before daddy came home with the grocery shopping, so we really scrounged around to find these things!!

You don't need a song to remember the order of colours in the rainbow. My dad taught me (more recently than I care to admit) the word ROYGBIV - Roy-G-Biv. A simple anagram that you can remember. My question is: did the girls eat ALLLL the colours?

Hi Bobbie,
I am so impressed by the range of foods which your children eat. If there were yellow cupcakes on offer, my kids wouldn't touch the tomatoes, but just pester me for more cupcakes! The beetroot would go down really well with two of them, but also all over their faces, table, hands etc! The spincach would go untouched!! congratulations!

Your tins were so pretty! And beets are my all-time favorite food. I thought my daughter was the only young beet-fan.

In the rainbow world is a banana yellow or white? And is an apple red or white? Cute idea. M
