Last week our washing machine died. It was making a horrible grinding sound for a few months now... it finally gave up. I did not know for two days.. I had a mound of washing.. and the lights wouldn't even turn on... She was truly dead. So shopping for new machine, delivery the next day, rain the day after that... 5 days later I have A LOT OF WASHING!!
We decided to buy a front loader as our laundry is a cupboard - space saving and better for the environment etc.. many benefits... but there was one benefit I missed -
It can be substituted for a TV
Our girls find it so much fun to sit in front of it and watch the clothes go round! They actually sat there for 20 mins on Saturday and this morning again!! We made some jokes that if we washed a shirt that had a cartoon character on it we might see it float by!!
One more reason to buy a front loader!

too cute! I love my front loader! the only draw back, is my whites arent as white.... wonder if it is just me that sees that?
The song "will you go round in circles" is going around like your washer in my head. I love it though. How fun for them.
Our front loader takes so long here. Not sure if that is normal or not. My whites aren't as white either...but that is probably because I was unaware I was using fabric softener instead of liquid washing detergent for a few weeks thanks to my lack of german. Our clothes were very soft though. I miss Napisan!
The song that comes to mind is the 80's one : "You spin me right round baby right round like a record baby right round, round round"
Maybe if my machine dies it'll be worthwile getting a front loader so the kids can be entertained (oh, and for us to help the environment too!)
Ha! Love it! How are you liking the washer? I've always had one and never noticed the whites being less white.
By the way I just absolutely love your blog. It's inspired me no end and you're clearly a fabulous and devoted Mum. Thanks for all the great ideas!
This is so beautiful I could watch it all night long too. Gorgeous!
We just got a front load washer this year too! I LOVE IT! We decided it was time to replace the 25 year old newlywed washer we bought for $75. My whites are just as white as they were with the other washer. My mom had the same problem, but it turned out she was using too much detergent, and wasn't using the right detergent. After switching to a liquid, high efficiency detergent, her whites are back to normal.
Don't listen to that salesman - the homemade powder will do great as long as you grate it finely before washing with it. Good luck!
That would definitely keep my girls entertained for hours...I think I could probably even get sucked into watching ;)
Max and Maeve do the same!! Ours in under the house though, so not seen as much!
