Cornflour Salt Dough

We have tried several salt dough recipes over the years, but this one  is THE BEST!

The dough looked like mashed potato! We played with the still warm dough on a cold afternoon!
Very Relaxing! I love squishing dough between my fingers.

This recipe uses Cornflour and I think it gave a better end result. I found the recipe here at Sweet Things via The Crafty Crow - my favourite Children's Craft Collective website.

Basically the Recipe is

1 cup cornstarch
2 cups salt
1 1/3 cups cold water

Put salt and 2/3 cup water in pan and bring to a boil. Mix cornstarch with 2/3 cup water and mix well. Blend 2 mixtures together and cook, stirring vigorously. This clay can be air dried (or 225 F degree oven until hard) and then painted.

I put ours in the oven at 50  C degrees and promptly forgot about it and they were in their overnight. Anyway they were hard and perfect in the morning so I'm glad I forgot about them :)

Once completely dried paint as you wish.

I like the sparkly look of the salt so I left some unpainted.

We made birds, owls, cats, octopus, snakes, turtles, snails. Some of them have been moved into the dolls houses. New favourite toys till I get sick of them and they 'mysteriously' dissapear into the bin :)
