Never one to miss a day to celebrate these days .... I just found out about another celebration??? Know what it is?? It is coming up in two days??
Winter Solstice!!!! The shortest day of the year!!
or for my northern hemisphere readers - you can celebrate the longest day of the year.
"The winter solstice occurs at the instant when the Sun's position in the sky is at its greatest angular distance on the other side of the equatorial plane from the observer. Depending on the shift of the calendar, the event of the winter solstice occurs some time between December 20 and December 23 each year in the northern hemisphere, and between June 20 and June 23 in the southern hemisphere"
For years my mother has been telling me her birthday is the shortest day of the year - so she has less daylight to celebrate!! Well now we have something else to celebrate too - Winter Solstice!! YAY!! on the 21st June which is this saturday people!!
Nearly every religion on the earth has a celebration that stemmed from the winter solstice - so I figure it will be ok to celebrate it!! Here are some sites with ways to celebrate solstice - it is a day to celebrate the sun - and we all love the sun for its life giving qualities.
How to have a family solstice Celebration
Family Traditions - Solstice
Solstice Games, Craft, Recipes
Paper Plate Sun Craft
A simple celebration about light can reinforce to children how blessed we are to live at this time on earth. Some other reasons to celebrate solstice:
Strengthen family bonding with each other
Expand upon existing patterns of family celebrations
Attune family to Nature's cycles
Attune family to its membership in the community of all life on planet Earth
Connect with ancestors
Celebrate ethnic/cultural heritage(s)
Educate about ancient and contemporary folkways
Deepen understanding about spiritual renewal and love
Have a fun day cozying up on the shortest day of the year!!

I forgot all about it. It sounds like a perfect day for a celebration. We just got finished eating outside, and then plan on walking. Thats sounds Solstice to me. What do you think?

Did I ever give that to you? My life is a little crazy right now. Thanks for these sites! You are so good at linking me up! M
This year for our Summer Sol... there was a full moon. It is suppose to be an extrordinary site at the moon-rise! Check it out if you get the chance. We saw it Wednesday night in the mountains. I am assuming it would be the same for our friends on the other side of the world, but don't know.
We celebrate the winter solstice too. Every solstice and equinox we have a tea. It's nice to observe the daylight or lack thereof too.
