This week we did String Painting inspired by The Artful Parent

Unfortunately I think this one was above their level or maybe not interesting enough. Two or three of the older children understood what to do but most gave up after a minute or two and went and got the paint brushes.

Toddler Tuesday - Art Group

This weeks class was all about track painting. We had about 10 kids this time.

We used cars, bikes, dinosaurs and horses to leave track marks on our paper.

This class was inspired by a similar activity on No time for flashcards she has a great blog I recommend if you have small children.

Toddler Art Group

Today's art was Resist Painting. We used oil crayons to draw (kindly donated by my Sister-In-Law- thanks:)then watercolour paint over the top. This was more to use up the little bit of paint left in the bottles than anything else - Paint is expensive!

But either the kids weren't in the mood, or this paint isn't as exciting to them as most of the kids were done and finished in 15 mins. Maybe they were hungry as they spent the next half hour eating and playing in the yard.

Little Houdini... I got rid of the esky full of water (for washing hands) because she always took off her clothes and hopped in. So I used a pot instead, and she STILL fitted her body in it!!

Toddler Tuesday - Art Group

This week we used inspiration from Seeking Imperfection and her cardboard roll painting.

It was raining today, and I thought maybe no one would want to come and sit in my cold garage in the rain, then I thought, well maybe they might want to get out of the house (it has been raining since Saturday) and my second guess was right!

And being school holidays we had older siblings and even a few cousins thrown in - 18!!! Children at my house trying to paint - IT WAS GREAT =) I am still recovering a few hours later ;) phew.... here are a few photos.

Toddler Tuesday - Art Group

After some minor technical difficulties ( I accidently deleted all my photos for the month!! - but wonderful IT husband found them again - what a hero!) I am ready to post about our second Toddler Art Group Session.

Using ideas from Secret Agent Josephine for leaf painting and from The Artful Parent for Salad Spinning Painting were were set to go. This time we had 6 children which is a nice size.

I was able to get a cheap Salad Spinner at Ikea as I was not sure what the paint would do to the spinner (nothing- the Paint washed out fine) as we only had one spinner the children had to take turns so while waiting they painted leaves and whatever they wanted on paper.

Some children had very short attention spans and one little girl was still going an hour later!! what a champ!! I was very impressed that the were all so interested in the salad spinner - I was worried they wouldn't be interested or get bored with it easily. I think this one was a success!!

And my little one ended the class the same way as last time - Stripping off naked and hopping into the esky full of warm water to wash our hands in!! - *note for next time - smaller container!!

Toddler Art Group

By now you will all know that I never have an origingal thought!! After reading through The Artful Parent blog a few times, I thought, I have to start my own art group like her - something creative for my last little girl at home to do. So I put out an email and got a great response from all my friends that would be interested in doing it with me....

We decided to start off nice and easy and we just painted using the home made paint recipe from Creative House I have great plans for subsequent classes using many of the tips from the Artful Parent. Luckily numbers were small for my first "practice run" as next time we will have double the amount of kids!!

It was great to see how long the chidrens attentions spans are, and as she said on the artful parent - the kids will play in the warm soapy water longer than the activity. So apart from half the kids wanting to get their clothes off, my daughter and friend hopping into the bucket and a "picking up her own poo off the ground cause I am naked accident" by someone who shall remain nameless ( *cough* *cough* my kid!)

I think the class went well!! :)
